Henry passed away last night and there's a special piece of my heart that he took with him. He will be forever missed and I know there will never be another dog quite as special as him. My heart breaks. I left him at the vet's office last night so he could have some medicine through the night, never dreaming I would get a call first thing this morning that he passed away. I feel like I didn't even really get to say goodbye. I just kissed him and told him, "be back in a little bit, buddy." I know that Alex was there to greet him in Puppy Heaven with lots of licks and they are happily rolling around and playing together.

My Henry
Before I had my son, before I even had my husband... I had my Henry. I was trying to mend a broken heart and decided to go to the Stillwater pound and play with some dogs to cheer myself up. Subconsciously, I probably knew I was getting a dog, even though I was "living on my own" in an apartment that didn't allow dogs and with a roommate that probably didn't want me to get a dog. He was about 4-6 months old and when I got him out of his cage to play with him he got so excited that he peed... And I knew he was the one for me. I decided he'd be my early 19th birthday present to myself. Who knew that little dog would be such an amazing companion for more than 11 years? Over 11 years-- that's a lot of ups and downs and life experiences I went through with him by my side. After all those years, if we were ever apart for long he'd still get so excited to see me. He was the smartest dog with so many fun tricks. He was also the most loyal, but stubborn, dog. He could be an ass to other people, but never to me. He knew my emotions and would snuggle me, protect me, give me space, or grab a ball to play depending on what I needed at any given time. He was also special buddies with my dad; they went to puppy obedience school together, and enjoyed daily walks every time Henry was in Tulsa. Honestly, he was probably just as much my dad's dog as mine.

Rotation Recap: Surgery
I told Tony that he should journal after each rotation so he can look back at all the pro's and cons. I don't know if he'll actually do it, but I thought I'd write down some of my thoughts....
after all, one of these will be the career path he chooses!
SURGERY:
AWFUL. Terrible. Done.
So glad this won't be his career!
On a positive note, it was 6 weeks of scrubs every day and no dry cleaning bills!
...but even though he hated it, he still did really great and got super awesome reviews!

Doorbell Note
Dad's hardly ever home for nap time... But when he's home and in charge of nap time, you better believe nothing is going to wake up that baby! Later he said, "Oh, I put a note on the doorbell so nobody would ring it." Hahahahaha.

My Valentine
I have found the one who completes me, challenges me, amazes me, and makes me a better person. I never dreamed life could turn out to be so happy. Is it absolutely perfect? No, because nobody's life is perfect... but this life is, truly, the best and perfect one for me. I wouldn't change anything about it; every day includes laughs, kisses, and so much love!
Right now, in the middle of a very tough and demanding surgery rotation, days off are very few and far between, so for Tony to have a weekend off was super special.
It was exactly what the 3 of us needed and we had so much fun!
Elliott's First Zoo Trip was so much fun. And look at all those sweet babies! :)
And in the spirit of Valentine's Day... here's a fun little 'Love Survey'.
Where did you meet your other half?
We grew up going to the same church and small, private elementary school.
How long have you been with your significant other?
(Aside from the very adorable 4th grade/6th grade relationship) In a couple weeks it will be 11 years!
If you're married, when did you say "I do"?
June 24, 2006
Was it love at first sight?
Well, I can still perfectly picture his big smile as he opened his front door the first night we saw each other again. I'm pretty sure he knew he was going to marry me after that night. I was cautiously optimistic.
Do you have any children yet?
Yes, our greatest & happiest adventure yet- Elliott.
What is your favorite part of your significant other?
His heart; he is the most amazing dad, the most caring (soon-to-be) doctor, and the most loving husband. He has truly turned out to be such a great man.
Where was your first date?
The first "unofficial" date was driving through McDonalds for a late night snack, but I think first real date was Johnny Carino's and a movie.
How long were you dating before you said "I love you"?
Not very long, maybe a month. We were laughing really hard about something and he slipped and said, "Oh, man, I sure do love you." ...but I didn't know if he was really being serious or just saying it lightheartedly... so I awkwardly sat there and smiled with a questionable look on my face, and that's when we both admitted we were feeling the L-o-v-e.
How long were you dating your other half before he/she proposed?
4.5 months
Where is your favorite place you have traveled with your other half?
We've been some really fun places: Belize was our honeymoon so that will always be really special, we've been on 3 cruises which were all been really fun, we've taken trips to NYC together, had an amazing trip to Ethiopia together, and had an awesome "babymoon" in Mexico... every time we travel it becomes a "favorite" in one way or another, and we've still got a lot of traveling left to do!
How do you and your other half usually spend Valentine's Day?
Usually dinner somewhere and a movie. This year I think we're going to grill steaks, go to the movie theater to buy popcorn, and rent a movie to watch at home.
What does your favorite 'date night' consist of?
Sometimes it's dressing up and trying a new restaurant or going to see a ballet .. Sometimes it's simply going grocery shopping or walking around Sam's Club.
What is the best gift you have received from your other half?
There was a Valentine's Day he surprised me with a blue-topaz heart necklace that I really loved (and, unfortunately, lost), and a birthday (in January) that he searched all over town and found a nice wind-chime for me because he remembered me saying that previous summer how I wished I had one for us to hang outside.... but really, all the material things he has given me, and continues to give me, could fall to the wayside.... his love, forgiveness, encouragement, friendship, kisses goodbye every morning, and our laughs together are the very best gifts. And, I suppose, since Elliott is 50% of his DNA, that's one of the best gifts, too.
