Ordinarily Special

Today was a special day. It wasn't anything spectacular, matter of fact, it was just a simple family day that included sleeping in, homemade sandwiches for lunch, a trip to the zoo, dinner together at the table, a mommy-solo trip to the grocery store while the guys cleaned up dinner and had bath time, then we ended with some family coloring & book reading before bedtime. Simple, but, yet, so happy and fulfilling. I have my best friend by my side and we get to watch this silly, fun, happy boy grow and explore the world around him.
Maybe these family days are so special because we very rarely get them? (Few people understand medical school life; time off is almost non-existent sometimes.) Maybe we enjoy these times because we're older-- we waited over 8 years to have a baby-- so it makes this time in our lives extra special? Or maybe, with some effort along the way, we've learned to let go of the negative and focus on all our blessings? Maybe it's a big combination of things, I don't know, but somehow, some way, life is SO.DARN.GOOD.
