I told Tony that he should journal after each rotation so he can look back at all the pro's and cons. I don't know if he'll actually do it, but I thought I'd write down some of my thoughts....
after all, one of these will be the career path he chooses!
OB/GYN:
There seemed to be a lot of different facets to this rotation: Gynecology Oncology, Clinic Gynecology, and Obstetrics. Overall, I think he really liked it. He didn't enjoy surgery days (gyn-onc is primarily surgery so that wasn't his favorite). It's a lot of hard work, but he kind of surprised me with how much he liked OB. I think I liked it the most because I always love stories of babies being born! Ha! However, it's not always sunshine. Sometimes there is loss, and it is so.very.hard. but I think those cases are what reminds doctors that each individual patient, birth, and life is so very precious.
Do I think this will be his career?
Kind of. I think he's pretty much 100% set on Family Medicine and will incorporate OB/GYN in his practice! ....that is, unless, Peds has some sort of magic koolaid that somehow wins him over.
